Home » Construction Kicks Off at Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct – A Major Milestone for Serpentine Jarrahdale
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is celebrating a significant step forward in the delivery of local community infrastructure, with construction now officially underway on the highly anticipated Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct in Mundijong.
In a ceremonial turning of the first sod, Hugh Jones MLA—representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation—joined Shire President Rob Coales, CEO Paul Martin, developers, and local community members to mark the beginning of the project’s first stage.
This momentous occasion signals the start of works on the 63-hectare precinct, which will deliver a state-of-the-art sporting and community hub designed to meet the needs of the Shire’s fast-growing population.
Stage One Highlights:
The $35.2 million project is being made possible through a collaborative funding effort, including $22 million from the State Government, $10.6 million in Developer Contributions, and $2.6 million from the Shire.
Construction is being carried out by CivCon Civil and Project Management, who were awarded the $25.7 million contract earlier this year. Works are scheduled for completion by December 2027.
A Boost for Local Sports and Community Life
Minister for Sport and Recreation Rita Saffioti described the precinct as a vital addition to local infrastructure that supports healthy and active lifestyles.
“Sporting precincts form such an important part of our communities, particularly in our suburbs,” Minister Saffioti said. “These improvements will be a significant boost to the Serpentine-Jarrahdale community with a range of sport and recreation facilities that will benefit active lifestyles.”
Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones echoed this sentiment, highlighting the wider community benefits.
“Facilities and projects like this not only support healthier lifestyles through sport and physical activity, they also bring people together and create a sense of community,” Mr. Jones said. “Once complete, this precinct will fast become a thriving and bustling community hub.”
A Proud Moment for the Shire
Shire President Rob Coales emphasised the significance of the project for local families, sporting clubs, and the broader community.
“Today marks a major milestone for our community,” he said. “Breaking the first ground at Keirnan Park isn’t just the start of construction—it’s the beginning of something much bigger.”
As construction progresses, Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct is set to become a cornerstone of sport, connection, and community life in Serpentine Jarrahdale.
